About Hajj

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, obligatory for every Muslim who is physically and financially capable, at least once in a lifetime.

  • Performed in the Holy Land of Mecca
  • Conducted during the month of Dhul Hijjah
  • Consists of a series of special worship rituals
  • Organized by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia

Hajj Requirements

To register as a hajj pilgrim candidate, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Muslim
  • Adult (Baligh)
  • Of sound mind
  • Capable (istitha'ah) in health and finances
  • Has a mahram (for women)

Types of Hajj

The Indonesian government organizes two types of hajj departures that pilgrims can choose from:

Regular Hajj Standard organization with facilities as per regulations
Special Hajj Organization with additional facilities and services

Hajj Registration Procedures

  1. 1

    Document Preparation

    Prepare the required documents for hajj registration:

    • Original and photocopy of ID card (KTP)
    • Original and photocopy of family card
    • Hajj savings passbook from a Deposit-Receiving Bank (BPS-Bipih)
    • Recent passport photos (3x4 and 4x6)
    • Marriage certificate/mahram certificate (for women)

    Initial Deposit at a Deposit-Receiving Bank

    Open a hajj savings account and make the initial deposit at an appointed Deposit-Receiving Bank (BPS-Bipih):

    • Open a hajj savings account
    • Make an initial deposit of Rp25,000,000
    • Receive a deposit receipt containing a validation number
    • Keep the deposit receipt for registration
    • Register at the hajj office no later than 5 working days after the deposit

    Registration & Portion Number

    Register at the regency/city office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah according to your domicile:

    • Submit the deposit receipt and required documents
    • Fill in the Hajj Registration Form (SPPH)
    • Record your photo and fingerprints (biometrics)
    • Receive proof of registration containing your portion number

    Waiting Period

    During the waiting period, monitor your departure status regularly:

    • Check your estimated departure at haji.go.id using your portion number
    • Monitor the benefit value balance in your virtual account
    • Update your data if your address or contact details change
    • Wait for the announcement of pilgrims eligible for final payment

    Health Istitha'ah & Final Payment

    In your departure year, once BPIH is set and your name is on the list of those eligible for final payment:

    • Take a health check at the community health center (puskesmas) of your domicile
    • Be declared health-capable (istitha'ah), required before final payment
    • Pay the Bipih balance at the Deposit-Receiving Bank on schedule
    • Complete biometric recording after the final payment
    • A second payment stage opens if the quota has not been filled

    Manasik & Departure

    Final preparations before departing for the Holy Land:

    • Attend hajj manasik guidance
    • Final health check and meningitis vaccination
    • Receive your passport, visa, and hajj equipment
    • Depart according to your flight group (kloter) schedule

Hajj Pilgrimage Organization Fee (BPIH)

Hajj pilgrimage organization fees are set by the government and may change annually according to economic conditions and foreign exchange rates.

Important Note: The costs above are averages per regular hajj pilgrim for 1448 H/2027 AD, based on the Conclusions of the Working Meeting between Commission VIII of the DPR RI and the Government on 7 October 2026, and may change according to Presidential Decree. Registration Document Requirements

Identity Documents

  • Original and photocopy of ID card (2 copies)
  • Original and photocopy of family card (2 copies)
  • Passport (if already available)
  • Birth certificate (for age verification)

Photo Documents

  • Passport photo 3x4 (5 copies, white background)
  • Passport photo 4x6 (5 copies, white background)
  • Photos must be recent (max 6 months)
  • No sunglasses allowed

Financial Documents

  • Islamic bank savings book
  • Registration fee payment receipt
  • Tax ID number (if available)
  • Salary slip or income certificate

Mahram Documents (Women)

  • Marriage certificate (for married women)
  • Mahram certificate from local authority
  • ID card and family card of accompanying mahram
  • Proof of kinship with mahram

Health Documents

  • Health certificate from doctor
  • Laboratory test results
  • Meningitis vaccination certificate
  • Complete medical history

Other Documents

  • Completed registration form
  • Statement of financial capability
  • Permission letter from employer (for civil servants/military/police)
  • Stamp duty as needed

Hajj Preparation Timeline

The following are the preparation stages that prospective hajj pilgrims should be aware of

  1. ± D-26 Years

    Registration & Portion Number

    Register as early as possible: make the Rp25 million initial deposit at a Deposit-Receiving Bank, then register at the regency/city office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to obtain a portion number. Since the 2026 quota, the waiting period has been equalized at about 26 years across all provinces.

  2. Waiting Period

    Monitor Estimated Departure

    Check your estimated departure year at haji.go.id using your portion number, and keep your data and contact details up to date so you don't miss announcements.

  3. ± D-10 Months

    Final Payment Eligibility & Health Istitha'ah

    Once the BPIH for your departure year is set, the list of pilgrims eligible for final payment is officially announced at haji.go.id. Take a health check at your local community health center, since health istitha'ah must be met before you can pay the Bipih balance.

  4. ± D-9 to D-6 Months

    Bipih Final Payment

    Pay the remaining Bipih at the Deposit-Receiving Bank during the first-stage schedule announced by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. A second stage opens if the quota has not been filled, including for pilgrims still awaiting their health istitha'ah result.

  5. ± D-6 to D-2 Months

    Passport & Manasik Guidance

    Prepare your passport as directed by your local hajj office (valid for at least 6 months at departure) and attend the hajj manasik guidance organized by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

  6. ± D-1 Month

    Health Check & Vaccination

    Complete the follow-up health check and the mandatory meningitis vaccination. Stay in good condition, as Saudi authorities may randomly check pilgrims' health on arrival.

  7. D-7 Days

    Departure Preparation

    Receive your passport, visa, and hajj equipment, attend the departure briefing, and get ready to depart according to your flight group (kloter) schedule.
